I read a lot. So much that it might be considered a sickness. I am a booknerd. As there have yet to be any support groups created for this
problem, I blog. About books. Books that I love. Books that I hate. Books in between.

"Wonder. Go on and wonder."

So my darling husband and I went to New Orleans for a few days to celebrate New Year's Eve. Neither of us had ever been and we had a fantastic time. It was seriously amazing. So much fun.

Imagine my joy when we happened into Pirates Alley, to discover Faulkner House Books!

This is the boarding house where William Faulkner lived during his many years in New Orleans. In his room here he penned his first two novels, Soldier's Pay and Mosquitoes. This is also where he made the decision to dedicate his career to being a novelist.

The current owners of this home, built in the mid 1800's, converted his once bedroom (pictured above) to a gorgeous independent bookstore. Seriously breathtaking. (Also - say hi to my hubby!) The desk in the back is where he wrote.

I was very excited.

I bought a copy of Mosquitoes for my library. I'm excited to dig into it. It is based on the people he met while living in this house.

  1. I love New Orleans....my husband and I got married down there and somehow, in all the hubub of the wedding, I missed this bookstore! So glad you featured it and such lovely pictures (and hi to the hubby, too!). Let me know how you like the Faulkner....I've tried and tried to get into his books, but so far, nuthin' doin'. But I'll keep trying every year or so, LOL.

  2. My husband grew up in New Orleans and didn't know this was there! I'll make sure we don't miss it next time we're there!
